An interstate carrier holds federal authority from FMCSA, so you find it by USDOT or MC number. A carrier that must register with TxDMV also holds a TxDMV number, and TxDMV's Truck Stop lookup searches by that number or by name.

Which numbers a Texas carrier holds
An intrastate-only carrier's USDOT number is marked intrastate. Running a vehicle or combination over 26,000 pounds, placarded hazmat or household goods for hire inside Texas also takes a TxDMV number.
How to look up a Texas carrier
- By USDOT or MC number. The status check reads the carrier's FMCSA record.
- By TxDMV number or name. TxDMV's Truck Stop lookup (opens in a new tab) searches Texas motor carriers with no login. You pick a search type and enter at least four characters. It shows up to 100 results.
Truck Stop won't list an interstate-only carrier registered with UCR, since those are exempt from TxDMV registration. Look them up by USDOT or MC number.
Check your own filings
Look up your own company before a broker does, since a lapsed insurance filing can cost you the TxDMV certificate (Form E) or your FMCSA authority.
Check a carrier's status. Enter a USDOT or MC number to see its FMCSA status. Check a status

Frequently asked questions
How do I look up a Texas trucking company?
The status check finds its FMCSA record from a USDOT or MC number. A carrier registered with TxDMV also turns up in Truck Stop by TxDMV number or name.
Which Texas carriers need a TxDMV number?
A carrier needs one to run a vehicle or combination over 26,000 pounds, placarded hazmat or household goods for hire inside Texas. Carriers that run only interstate and register with UCR are exempt.
Why doesn't a carrier show up in TxDMV's Truck Stop lookup?
Interstate-only carriers registered with UCR skip TxDMV registration, so Truck Stop won't have them and the status check will. A search under four characters or past the 100-result cap also comes up short.
When is the new entrant safety audit?
FMCSA schedules the audit within 12 months after a carrier begins operations.
